Surf Pines has first new street in 22 years.

If you have driven on Manion you might notice the new home going in about midway on the east side of the road. This new home is on a brand new street in Surf Pines. It now serves Gary Hanson, Stan Sayer and the new house that Hanson is building with Jason Palmberg.  Now what we find is cool is the name they chose. It seems some what appropriate after seeing the Bear Scat we found on Shady Pines a year or so back.

What to do with your cans and bottles with new Recycle rules!

Greetings Surf Pines community, My name is Marlie Haggren.  My husband Matti and I live on Ocean Drive with our two young boys Oskar and Hank, and our beloved Dachshund, Nancy. My boys attend Anchor Christian Academy, a local school in Hammond, where I serve on the PTA.  Because we’re a private school and don’t receive any federal funds, we do a lot of fundraising to support the small school.  One of the ways we fundraise is by collecting and recycling people’s unwanted cans and bottles.  All of the proceeds go directly to the Anchor Christian Academy PTA which uses the money to fund extracurricular activities, new equipment, and general maintenance around the school…

Communications Committee Report about the new Surf Pines History Page…

Now on to some fun, new and exciting news. As many of you may be aware Annie and I are both history buffs and one of my personal goals is to document much of the here-to-fore poorly recorded history of the Clatsop Plains and Surf Pines. (Some of you may remember the presentation of the Clatsop Plains Chronicles: Early Surf Pines at the 2019 Annual Meeting).  We now have put together a whole section of our new web just on the history of our area. These will include access to the digital library that the Clatsop County Historical Society has populated with over 1,200 documents including most of the quarterly Cumtux publications,…

Secretary Report for Surf Pines from our annual meeting Saturday 7 August 2021

This was presented at the Zoom Annual Meeting. Good morning, most may not realize it, but the last two years have been an exciting reinvention of Surf Pines Association. Over the last 10+ years much of our internal infrastructure has badly degraded. For example, we had eight or nine separate data bases tracking our membership with little to no correlation. Our web site had no management since Jeff Hall stepped down in the late 2000’s. The Breeze had diminished to just a few pages managed by the President. Communications was derided by many members as almost non-existent. Our e-mail list had dropped to less than 200 members, which included several members of…

    STR Moratorium Town Hall Comments

On August 3, 2021 the Clatsop Commissioners of Clatsop County completed their Work Session on whether to implement an STR moratorium starting in September until new rules for STR permitting and operations are promulgated and implemented hopefully by February 2022. They agreed to move forward and below is the next step to implement new STR rules and implement a moratorium in September till they can be completed. We have had several people in our community who are strongly for or against having STR’s. However, in reading the written and verbal comments below from the two July public hearings, we can only see one SP couple who made comments for the residents in…

Information about Annual Meeting and Election

July 29, 2021 Dear Fellow Homeowners, We’ve had explanatory online meetings about the 2021/2022 budget and Amending the Articles of Incorporations.  Both were recorded and both the recordings and the actual documents are located at Annual Meeting Event Agenda Packet Link (you have to be registered as a SPA member to view). I urge everyone to vote.  Either mail your ballot via USPS to Surf Pines in the provided envelope or place the envelope in the secure mailbox in front of Ken’s house.  Please remember to either put your lot number or name on the back of the envelope.  Originally, I said we would have an outside person, as we did last year, supervise the counting…
