    While visiting, Astoria history is amazing. Below is a hand out that lists several online sites covering our rich past. With your phone or tablet, you can scan each QR code, just like you do at many restaurants, to link to our fun past. Just download and print both sides and you have a comprehensive list of the best history of the Astoria and surrounding area.     Looking for a fun way to volunteer

    We attended the orientation meeting for the Astoria Cruise hosts this afternoon and the first ships start coming in in April. This is the first for over 2 years and the once huge crew of well over 100 volunteers has diminished to about half that number. We have been doing this for several years and everyone has a ball.     Director of Community Development clarifies Planning Commission Recommendations for STRs.

    We have found that the subject of Short Term Rentals (STR) has been of great concern for many of our members. So we reached out to Clatsop County for clarification and received the following from Gail Hendrickson Director of Community Development. She indicated that the Planning Commission is recommending that STRs should only be in commercial building zones and that no STR will be permitted in Residential Building Zone. At the March 8 meeting the Planning Commission voted to limit all STRs to commercial Building Zones. This is being forwarded to the County Commissioners on April 13, 2022. This will have a major impact on all residential communities including Surf Pines so…

    Planning Commission recommends no STR in coastal residential building zones.

    We have not been able to get a copy of the minutes yet, but a member who attended the March 8 Clatsop County Planning Commission called me and relayed that the Planning Commission is recommending the County Commissioners restrict any Short Term Rentals in residential zoned communities along the coast. Attached is a copy of their agenda and will advise if we hear more. Attached is the agenda and as soon as the draft minutes are posted we will share with our members.     New Short Term Rental Rules Change Hearing

    NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING CLATSOP COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, to consider the following: Ordinance #22-01, amending Section 5.12 of the Clatsop County Code related to operating standards for short-term rentals in unincorporated County.     Lost two old time residents Joe and Gwynn Bakkensen

    Many of you remember Joe and Gwynn who lived in Surf Pines from the late 80s till 2019 when they transferred their home to their daughter and son in law in 2019. Both were extremely active volunteers in Surf Pines and long time Astoria Country Club members. In November Joe and Gwynn passed away within 7 days of each other. Below are their obituaries. We will miss these long term members.
