Gate fixed and Perpetrator Identified.
As many of you are aware, on June 10, the north entry gate was repaired. The person causing the damage has been identified and we are still working through Clatsop County Sheriff’s office.
I appreciate the emails about the gates. The repair was relatively easy. No doubt if this exact situation happens again, we could repair it ourselves within a few hours. We were reluctant for fear of voiding the warranty. These gates are a break-away design. Meaning if struck they will come off with reinstallation being straight forward. The issue with this breakage was the impact from a higher speed head on occurrence. While the gate could have been reattached the wiring to the lights was severed. We could have operated without the lights.
Historically, our gates have been left open for long periods of time when inoperable. With the issues of today, members are much more sensitive to leaving them open. Metro maintains our gates and disappointed us with their response time for repair. Ken and Scott Roose are addressing this with them. We will also do a better job of communicating to members.
