    SOLVE Beach Clean Up.

    Saturday, September 19th 10a.m.-1p.m. It’s been a tough summer for our beloved beach. Let’s show it some community love. SOLVE bags will be at the beach paths along Ocean Drive. Please sign in so we can count heads. Please leave filled bags ON THE BEACH, mid-tide, during the event. Please DO NOT leave on the beach path. Thank you for your continued support.     Fire Warning be safe out there.

    Fire Weather Warning / Emergency Responseby Gearhart City Staff All open burning has is banned. National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG WARNING for the North Oregon Coast. Due to extreme heat and dry conditions, high, easterly winds, and low humidity, there is EXTREME FIRE DANGER. The local fire departments, Oregon Department of Forestry and State Parks, have issued a TOTAL BURN BAN thru 9/13/20. NO BEACH FIRES. NO CAMPFIRES. NO FIRES IN PERSONAL FIRE PITS. NO BBQs OF ANY KIND. Thank you for keeping our communities and natural areas safe. The strong, dry east winds are creating havoc for Oregon emergency services.     Thought you might like some good news for a change. Our social media program is reaping great results. If we can get some help updating content on the web we will be that much better. Yesterday we had 311 click throughs to our blog about the four articles that we published in FaceBook, NextDoor and our other social media . That is an all time record for one day.     Questions about our new gate.

    There have been several questions on why our gates are being broken so often and the costs to SPA. Here are some answers from what I know. Tom Question:Are we breaking even on the maintenance/replacement  of these new gates? It seems like it is taking quite a while for the newness to wear off the  public to realize they are there and need to be respected. When I look at these bills I am surprised at the costs and I wanted to know if the offenders are compensating us for their carelessness in each case.     Even Better news Gate Buster Busted

    We have found our culprit who will be reimbursing Surf Pines for the damage they did to our gate the other day. They were identified once again with our gate cameras. This investment in cameras has already paid dividends. People keep asking why this keeps happening. First it seems to be only happening at the North end. It may be that it is a bit darker and/or sunlight may be a cause, since it seems to happen around late afternoon. We will be looking at ways to make the entry gate more visible. If the gates flashing red, watch your head!!! However, the biggest issue is that people keep trying to piggy…

    North Gate Damaged

    Sometime before 3:30 PM today the North Entrance gate arm was knocked off with enough force to sever the wiring for the LED lighting. We will review the camera footage to find out what happened and seek compensation for repairs. We will attempt to reinstall the arm without the LED lighting until Metro Access can come out and repair the lighting.

    FATAL CRASH ON HWY 101 – CLATSOP COUNTY

    News Release from Oregon State Police Posted on FlashAlert: August 11th, 2020 5:16 PM On Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at approximately 10:15 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 101 near milepost 32 between Tolovana and Arch Cape. Preliminary investigation revealed a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Van Nordquist (70) of Cannon Beach, was southbound when it failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the northbound lane, and collided with a Freightliner semi truck (towing two empty trailers) operated by Joshua Mullins (24) of Vancouver. Nordquist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Hwy 101 was closed for nearly five hours. ODOT established a detour around the crash.  OSP was assisted by…

    SURF PINES 2020 OCTOBERFEST CANCELLED

    It is with regret, that the Surf pines Octoberfest scheduled for Oct 9th has been cancelled.With the continued pandemic threat, the directive from the Governor to maintain social distance, keep gatherings to a minimum, and Camp Kiwanilong currently only allowing limited outdoor events, the Community Relations Committee has decided to cancel this years event.We look forward to 2021 when we can, hopefully, resume our community activities safely.
